MONTREAL SEARCH FOR “QUEER OF THE YEAR” GETS FREAKY IN YEAR THREE

Jun 12, 2012

One? Fabulous, Two? Fierce. Three? Freaky!  How about five queers!  Get your mind out of the gutter and into the glitter!  The 3rd Annual Queer of the Year competition, hosted by Tourisme Montréal, kicks off on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 and carries on through the end of August!  Five finalists will be flown to LGBT-loving Montréal for an all-expenses paid week of challenges, adventure and high-performance fun. This year, the competition and festivities are going to be harder, bolder, faster, funnier and at times…completely absurd.  Tourisme Montréal is putting peers in charge of queers as this year’s “Queer of the Year” will be at the mercy of public votes.  This will keep the five finalists pressed, primped and perspiring as they turn it before, during and after Montreal Pride Week (August 11-19, 2012), all in celebration of the diversity, individuality and pride within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Think you can handle it? Submit.
Now through July 20, visit http://www.facebook.com/QOTYcontest and show the world what you’re workin’ with!  Participants are required to submit…a quick application, explaining why they are worthy of the crown.  Tourisme Montréal will tease all those watching the action, as finalists are revealed online via video clips…one by one from July 12 – July 26. Word to the wise, those vying for the title of Queer of the Year shouldn’t wait to get into the game. The earlier an application is entered, the better the chances as the countdown to the last finalist chosen begins!

Do you like to watch? Share.
The finalists will then spend a week in Montreal during Pride and undertake five challenges, each captured in short and sometimes provocative videos. These episodes, co-produced by digital artist Joe Sabia (Story of Us – Obama 2012 and Google Goes Gaga – Intro Video), will keep the fans curious and sharing across social media channels.  Challenges will be designed as “social experiments” based on the five criteria for which QOTY is known: personality, talent, healthy lifestyle, community spirit and sex appeal.  This year’s competition will end with closing ceremonies and a final episode with the nomination of the 2012 Queer of the Year on August 31.  The competition will be intense, so participants should rally Facebook friends, Twitter followers and family to view, point, click, share and most importantly…vote!

Prizes & Partners?
One winner will receive a round-trip air ticket on Air Canada and three free nights at Hotel Le Germain to return to Montréal for a future visit, along with $5,000 CAD in spending cash. The four runners-up will receive a $1,000 CAD cash prize. Montréal Pride is the event partner for Queer of the Year. This is a community-driven, not-for-profit organization overseen by members of the businesses community, local LGBTA associations and event-planning and tourism industry representatives.  The Queer of the Year finalists will be flown to Montréal on Air Canada. Hotel Le Germain Montréal is the official hotel partner, providing accommodations to all contestants and the production team.
