Red State Freedom Tour

Red State Freedom Tour

Community, News
San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus responds to the election results by announcing a tour to support the LGBTQ community in RED states. Like many of you, the 300+ members of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus family - singers, staff and volunteers - have, along with the entire LGBTQ community, spent the last few days navigating our collective way through feelings of shock and despair. Rather than succumbing to feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, we've asked, "what can we do to make a difference?" In response to the recent presidential election and the voices of the so-called "silent majority," SFGMC will pursue a "Red State Freedom Tour" in the summer of 2018. While the exact itinerary has not been determined, it is our plan to go on a whistle-stop tour through…

Tell us your stories #PrideStories

Community
When we started this project in 2007, we felt the need to highlight resources for the LGBTQ community.  We wanted to showcase businesses that supported the community, tell stories of folks who were making an impact and feature organizations that were on the ground every day providing much need resources and support were visible and accessible.  Our goal was to empower our community through jobs, resources, and support. Probably more than anything, our readers enjoy our event postings.  We celebrate Pride in all forms from film festivals to kink events to business networking and we try to offer a wide geographical spectrum.  Sure big stuff is there like Frameline, IML and NGLCC - but we also strive to include smaller, lesser know events to offer visibility and reach into communities…

Rainbow Toastmasters

Rainbow Toastmasters

Community
Recently, I was invited to The SF Rainbow Toastmasters.  It  was a fun-filled evening as members presented and critiqued three speeches.  In addition, there was a round of table topics where members stand up and have 1-2 minutes to offer their best to response to impromptu topics. We sat down with Rainbow Toastmaster, Michael Platania to learn more. How did the Rainbow Toastmasters begin? Ken Stram was the founder. He started the club about six or seven years ago. He was the Economic Development Director at the SF LGBT Center, and thought this would be a good program to have. He eventually left the center, and Rainbow, but we are very excited that he has recently rejoined Rainbow! Why a LGBT chapter? To give us a safe space to speak…

Marriage Equality in Europe

Marriage Equality in Europe

My name is Maria and I am owner at Maria Assia Photography (http://mariaassia.com/). I regularly write about marriage and I produced this info-graphic attached about the legality of same-sex marriage in Europe. Marriage Equality in Europe Following the historic U.S Supreme Court decision to legalize same- sex marriage in the United States, I figured it would be interesting to see where Europe stands on the issue. It was interesting to find out that the Netherlands was the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, but it was surprising to see that countries like Italy do not recognize same-sex relationships. Support for same sex marriage amongst the public also varies a lot from country to country. Many countries in Europe only allow registered partnerships but these partnerships do not…
