Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS) is an interdisciplinary major that examines the experiences and opportunities of women and men in relation to race, ethnicity, class and sexuality. WGS places gender in specific cultural and historical contexts in relation to families, communities, and nations. In addition, feminist scholarship in recent years has inspired a vast array of work on those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered. Uniting inquiry in Women’s and Gender Studies is the effort to understand and explain the inequalities between and among men and women and to envision change.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Department currently anticipates a number of part-time temporary teaching opportunities across our General Education and core WGS major curriculum, with other occasional opportunities as funding allows. We are looking for individuals who can teach one or more of the WGS General Education courses: Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies (3units); Introduction to Queer Studies (4 units); Men and Masculinity (4units); LGBTQ US History (3units); Gender, Race and Representation (3 units); Gender, Race and Class (3 units). We are also looking for individuals who can teach one or more of the core WGS major courses: Transnational Feminisms (3-4 units); Queer Theory, Queer Lives (4 units); Foundations of Feminist Thought (4units). A topical course in the applicant’s area of specialization (3-4 units) may also be considered.

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:
•Master’s Degree with significant experience relevant to the specific courses for which you are applying.
•ABD’s with sufficient teaching and/or research experience in the area of specialization will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Ph.D. in either Women’s and/or Gender Studies or in a related field with research or teaching experience relevant to WGS.
•Teaching experience relevant to the specific courses for which you are applying.
•Research experience relevant to the specific courses offered.

Full-time is 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.
•Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment. Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon department needs and funding.
•Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
•Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
•Reimbursement for expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.

Application procedures for temporary faculty already teaching in the department:
-Temporary Faculty with three-year contracts do not need to reapply.
-Temporary Faculty who have taught for the department within the past two years only need to submit a letter of intent to remain in the pool. The hiring committee will review the Personnel Action File and then determine whether an additional interview would be beneficial.
