Fields That Still See the Most Discrimination: How Do We Bridge This Gap? Discrimination in the workplace may be illegal, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. For the LGBTI+ community, workplace discrimination is still something that runs rampant. While some industries, areas, and companies are welcoming and accepting of the LGBTI+ community, many others still have a long way to go. To many, it’s impossible to believe that employers can still discriminate against the LGBTI+ community. This kind of thinking eliminates the pressure from companies unwilling to make necessary changes. Without the right education, these issues can be brushed under the rug. Smart ways to grow my business, not “Build a million followers in a week” kind of stuff, but serious strategies and best practices to build a true business network. I've been doing this Marketing thing for close to 15 years, and here is what I've learned so far. Most local B2B business happens via word of mouth. Hardships in the LGBTQ+ Community Increase the Risk for Substance Abuse

Health
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, researchers estimate that 20 to 30 percent of the LGBTQ+ community struggles with a substance use disorder — more than double the rate of the general population. Those in the LGBTQ+ community face unique cultural, emotional and social challenges in regards to substance abuse. They also face difficult situations related to their family life, mental health, and sexual or gender identity. Some LGBTQ+ individuals turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with these challenges. Drug and alcohol abuse is also prevalent in LGBTQ+ culture, especially in the social scene. This combination of factors places the community at a greater risk for developing a substance use disorder. Stress at Home LGBTQ+ youths often face problems at home that can create high…

Stay Informed: What to Do When Homeowners Discriminate Like all things, society evolves. Many things that were unfairly seen as “taboo” a few decades ago are now perfectly legal and generally accepted. This happened with interracial marriage, and in recent years we’ve seen it extend to the LGBTI community. The Supreme Court has ruled gay marriage legal in all 50 states, but does that mean the discrimination ends? Not always. Unfortunately, there are still blurred legal lines where discrimination and some people's religious beliefs are involved. Fair housing laws can be one of those areas. State Laws Vary Laws vary by state when it comes to protection for housing and the LGBTI+ community. Some states do have laws in place to protect the LGBTI+ community from housing discrimination. In these states,…
